Mit The Witcher 3 – Wild Hunt entwickelte CD Projekt RED das meistprämierte Spiel aller Zeiten. Über 250 Preise und das Lob der Spieler konnte das polnische Studio für sich gewinnen, jetzt haben die Entwickler zusätzlich eine staatliche Förderung von 30 Millionen Zloty (rund 7 Millionen Euro) erhalten. CD Projekt RED hat sich mit vier Projekten für diese Förderung beworben.
Das National Center for Research and Development (NCBR) genehmigte alle Vier, sowie Einen weiteren von GOG.com zur Entwicklung eines Plattform übergreifenden Multiplayers. Adam Kicinski, President von CD Projekt RED, veröffentliche dazu folgendes Statement:
“Developing videogames is a hyperinnovative activity, but also one which carries substantial financial risks, involves continuous R&D work and requires much experimentation and prototyping along the way. The GameINN program – a fruit of our industry’s collaborative efforts – will, in the coming years, enable Polish developers to carry out nearly 40 projects worth 191 million PLN. I am confident that the resulting innovative solutions will further elevate the quality of Polish videogames and enhance our competitiveness on the global stage. Indeed, our industry now has the potential to become the champion of the modern Polish economy.”

Das Fördergeld ist Projektgebunden und wird dabei in folgenden Bereichen genutzt:
City Creation: Comprehensive technology for the creation of “live”, playable in real-time, cities of great scale based on the principles of artificial intelligence and automation and taking into account the development of innovative processes and tools supporting the creation of high-quality open world games.
Seamless Multiplayer: Comprehensive technology enables the creation of unique gameplay for many players, taking into account the search of opponents, session management, replication facilities, and support of a variety of game modes along with a unique set of dedicated tools.
Cinematic Feel: Comprehensive technology for providing a unique, film quality RPG with open world, also taking into account innovative solutions Process and unique set of dedicated tools.
Animation Excellence: Comprehensive technology enabling a significant increase in quality and production of complex face and body animations for open world RPG games, also taking into account the innovative process solutions and a unique set of dedicated tools.
Witcher 3 Fans konnten bereits belebte Städte und großartige Animationen genießen. Es ist allerdings gut zu wissen, dass sich das Studio für Cyberpunk 2077 noch weiter entwickeln will. Momentan arbeitet CD Projekt RED an GWENT – The Witcher Cardgame, das sich in seiner Betaphase befindet.
Auch andere Entwickler durften sich auf die Unterstützung vom NCBR freuen. Techland (Dead Island, Dying Light) erhielten zwei Förderungen, unter anderem für “developing a prototype for an action RPG set in an original fantasy world, played in FPP (first person perspective) and using DX12 technology”. Was sich stark nach Techlands Open World Fantasy Action RPG mit Damien Monnier (ehemaliger Mitarbeiter bei CD Projekt RED) als Lead Designer anhört. CI Games (Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3) bekamen eine Förderung für “the development of innovative technology based on advanced algorithms, dedicated artificial intelligence to generate ambient player in the crowd, and herds of animals”. Bloober Team (das Studio hinter Layers of Fear) wird ihre Förderung nutzen zu Entwicklung von “self-learning automatic system modeling personalized replayability real-time gaming with the horror genre, based on the interpretation of the reaction and the player psychology”. Eine AI, die sich an den Handlungen des Spielers orientiert und den Wiederspielwert eines Horrorspiels erhöht, indem es jedesmal andere Situationen schafft.
Die polnische Gamingindustrie hat in letzter Zeit einige außergewöhnliche Spiele hervorgebracht. Mit den staatlichen Fördermitteln können wir nur hoffen, dass die Entwickler ihre Möglichkeiten noch mehr ausschöpfen und wir in den nächsten Jahren weitere Meisterwerke bekommen.
